When I'm inspired and my brain creates a melody I immediately pick my phone (I have it with me most of the time with me) and record my ideas. This is a good way to remembering. This method may seem strange to some people but who cares, you want to remember your music. Of course you can write ideas on paper but recording is in my opinion faster because you dont need to analyse what you had written. By the way you save some wood for beautiful guitars of course :D

Sometimes when I hear cool rythm I try to sing a melody and this is another good way to write your own music.

Painter extends his imagination with painting, Musician do that with creating music - last paragraph may seem out of topic but yes, I want to wrote that :P

Hey I agree as well. I carry around a tape recorder ( sony pressman) and sing the melodies and riffs on to the tape so I remember later.

You can always call your voicemail as well... I have done that a few times
:o
